Subject–Verb Agreement

The rule sounds simple — a singular subject takes a singular verb, a plural subject a plural verb — but the exam hides the real subject behind "of"-phrases, "along with" insertions and tricky words like "each", "the number" and "one of those who". The skill is always the same: find the true subject, decide if it is singular or plural, then match the verb. This chapter drills every trap.नियम सरल लगता है — एकवचन कर्ता एकवचन क्रिया लेता है, बहुवचन कर्ता बहुवचन — पर परीक्षा असली कर्ता को "of"-वाक्यांश, "along with" और "each", "the number", "one of those who" जैसे शब्दों के पीछे छिपाती है। कौशल हमेशा एक-सा है: असली कर्ता खोजें, तय करें एकवचन या बहुवचन, फिर क्रिया मिलाएँ। यह अध्याय हर जाल का अभ्यास कराता है।

A singular subject takes a singular verb (is, has, goes); a plural subject takes a plural verb (are, have, go). The classic trap is a phrase beginning with "of": the verb agrees with the word before "of", not the noun inside it. "A bouquet of roses lends colour" — the subject is "bouquet" (singular), not "roses".एकवचन कर्ता एकवचन क्रिया लेता है (is, has, goes); बहुवचन कर्ता बहुवचन (are, have, go)। क्लासिक जाल "of" से शुरू वाक्यांश है: क्रिया "of" से पहले वाले शब्द से मेल खाती है, भीतर की संज्ञा से नहीं। "A bouquet of roses lends colour" — कर्ता "bouquet" (एकवचन) है, "roses" नहीं।

"You" exception."You" अपवाद। "You" always takes a plural verb, even for one person: "You are working hard." "You" हमेशा बहुवचन क्रिया लेता है, एक व्यक्ति के लिए भी: "You are working hard."
