Vijayanagara & Bahmani Kingdoms

In 1336, two brothers Harihara and Bukka founded the mighty Vijayanagara Empire on the banks of the Tungabhadra, while in 1347 the Bahmani Kingdom rose in the Deccan. For over two centuries these two powers clashed for control of South India, leaving behind glorious capitals at Hampi, Gulbarga and Bidar. These notes cover the four Vijayanagara dynasties, the great Krishnadevaraya, the foreign travellers, the Battle of Talikota, and the Bahmani Kingdom with its minister Mahmud Gawan.
